so it begins...

so, potty training started today. we have no idea what we are doing. apparently griffin peed through his pull-up on the way to school...in the 20 minutes he was wearing it. i thought these things were like a pamper, only easy for a kid to pull on and off themselves? if this is the case and they just leak pee right through, what is the point of them?
anyway, we spent about $100 last night at Target equipping ourselves with what we thought were the things we needed. a cars potty seat, $50 in pull-ups, a book that tells griffin how he is a big boy if he uses the potty (and that makes a totally annoying flushing sound), and of course a big bag of m&m's and marshmallows (treats he'll get if he uses the pot). he doesn't care about stickers, so not sure if that would work.

i can just see griffin in 15 years from now, having a craving for marshmallows right after he goes to the can.
maybe bribing your kid with sweets isn't the way to go...but hey, we're new at this.

anyway, he enjoyed sitting on the toilet, but nothing happened. he just wanted to get on and off and flush the toilet over and over again. we'll see what kind of luck miss yvonne has today.

we had a great weekend. friday was low-key. a nice night at home.

saturday was a busy day full of fun stuff. we packed up and headed out to lakeville for "a day with thomas"

griffin about lost his load when he saw thomas. all the kids there did. it was cute to see. we took about a 20-minute train ride (which for the adults was fairly boring), and then griffin got to meet the creepy sir topham hat.

there were other activities for kids to do, but g was a tad too little for some of them. overall, he really liked it and we'd probably go back if he's still into trains this much next year.

we then headed out to our friends shannon and laurences house for their slip&slide party. laurences good friend chris was in town from england visiting. dan and i have become quite fond of chris and it was so great to see him and catch up. the party was great. the make-shift slip&slide was the highlight. dan's got a bum knee from it, but it was good stuff. griffin even went down by himself a couple of times.

we put g to bed over there and continued to hang out catching up with friends. went home too late, only to get up too early.

sunday was my rollerblade 1/2 marathon. the first couple of miles were tough...i was still sleeping basically. but, i found my groove and it was actually great. there is the part where you head up the hill to finish the 1/2, or you'd go straight to do the full. even though i'd only signed up for the 1/2, i was very tempted to keep going and just do the full, because i was feeling good. but then i came to my senses and the thought of the nap i was going to take shortly made me decide to just finish.
when i was finishing there were super loud cheers and everyone saying, "good job..you look great out there!" gee...thanks! after the 4 beers last night and the 4 hours of sleep i got, that's quite sweet of you. then i look behind me and there is about an 80-year old man in overalls just finishing. he looked like he was about to die. maybe i didn't do THAT well if i came in the same time he did. oh well. i did it.
